DON DOKKEN: GEORGE LYNCH Didn't Give A Fuck About The Fans
August 19, 2002The long and well-publicized feud between DOKKEN frontman Don Dokken and former DOKKEN axeman George Lynch shows no signs of letting up. In a recent interview with Glam Metal, Dokken was more than eager to tell his side of the story.
"George was a great guitar player — he was one of the best of the 80's — but I knew from the first day that I met him that something wasn't right," the singer revealed. "I went to [drummer] Mick Brown (who went to high school with him) and said that George seemed a little off, a little strange, he just seemed very angry. I thought that the more famous we got the happier he would be, but it became quite the opposite. It was very sad."
According to Don, not only would Lynch take his anger out on the band, but he would also be very ambivalent towards his own fans. Often he would intentionally try to sabotage the shows. "I would say, please George people pay to see us, fake it, smile to the audience, pretend like you want to be here," recalled the singer. "He would tell me that he was only here for the money and didn't give a fuck about the fans. That really bothered me because without the fans we're nothing. Lynch didn't see it that way — he said that the fans should be lucky that he was playing for them. It was a real big issue with us and I hear that he's not any happier now. I think he needs to take a good look at himself in the mirror, or maybe get some sort of medication. I don't hate him, I just feel very sorry for him. I would hate to wake up every day angry at the world. What a horrible way to live life."
